The Stranger Things effect strikes again

A couple weeks ago, we rounded up seven of the best guitar-led covers of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, in light of the song's stunning rise back to the top of the pops after its prominent inclusion in the fourth season of Stranger Things.

In recent days though, another (very different-sounding, mind you) landmark mid-'80s track has seen a similar bump thanks to the blockbuster Netflix show: Metallica's Master of Puppets.

Played by the show's resident shredder, Eddie Munson, in its recently-released season finale, Master of Puppets has received 17.5 million Spotify downloads in the past week alone, and has also become (according to Yousician) the number one song aspiring guitarists want to learn.

Below, you can see Joseph Quinn – the actor who plays Munson – tackle the metal classic himself in rehearsal.
