Editor's Note
Even the best feel insecure sometimes
On GW.com, we've previously talked about how constantly comparing yourself to other guitarists is bad news for your playing, creativity, and mental health

If you have, however, felt insecure at any point recently about your own playing – whether or not it's from comparing yourself to others – you're far from alone.

At a recent Metallica show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, James Hetfield prefaced a performance of One by confessing to the massive crowd that he had been feeling like “an old guy" before the band's performance, with a gnawing feeling that he “can't play anymore.”

His longtime bandmates helped him through this moment of self-doubt, but it just goes to show that some of even the best, most accomplished professional guitarists on the planet sometimes feel that same sense of insecurity that you may be struggling with.

Are you angry? Cos I'm furious...

Time and time again establishment politicians, and their mates in the press, do nothing but operate in the interests of anyone but the super-rich.

Escalating living costs are plunging society into the greatest crisis in living memory. Wages are stagnant, workers' rights are being stripped, and the climate crisis barely makes the political agenda.

Traditional media are unable to report on these issues with any kind of integrity. Billionaire funders and multi-million pound advertising partnerships define what they do – and don't – cover.

But thanks to our regular supporters, all of us at Novara Media are working harder than ever to provide meaningful analysis and reporting on the issues that drastically impact our lives.

Will you join our supporters, from just £1 per month?
