Glam rock's greatest guitarists
A couple weeks ago, I saw Brett Morgen's new, much-talked-about David Bowie documentary, Moonage Daydream. Though someone as otherworldly as Bowie deserves infinitely more than a cookie-cutter, Power Point-like documentary, I admittedly came away feeling slightly underwhelmed.

By far the most moving parts of the film for me were the clips of Bowie performing with his kickass Spiders from Mars band in the early 1970s. Led by axe-slinger Mick Ronson, the band brought Bowie's futuristic vision to life in dazzling fashion, giving his songs the dramatic, explosive musical backdrops they needed to conquer the imaginations of a generation.

Through the theater's full bore sound system, Ronson's still-incredible tone was simply overwhelming, and I was overcome briefly by the same feeling – of having my brain re-wired, essentially – that I had when I heard Ronson's playing on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust for the first time.

To me, Ronson is one of the greatest (and most overlooked) guitar players of the 1970s. Today, alongside him, we look at 14 other guitarists who – with a couple of exceptions – never became household names like your Claptons and Pages, but nonetheless did much to define the guitar's astonishing development in that decade. Give it a read here, or below.
