How another rock legend went digital
Def Leppard are known for their love of technology. After all, their career-defining smash hit album, Hysteria, was famously made with the best recording tech available at that time.

Live though, the band remained resolutely old school, with Marshall-powered setups.

That was until 2018, when longtime Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen joined Joe Satriani and John Petrucci for that year's edition of the G3 tour. Petrucci's touring rig was based around the Fractal Axe-Fx, and he eagerly showed its capabilities to Collen. 

Collen needed little convincing to make the switch, and hasn't looked back since. He even quickly talked his Def Leppard bandmates – Vivian Campbell and Rick Savage – into making the same change. As digital technology has advanced over the years, it's a switch that more guitar legends (even the most tone-conscious among them) have been making onstage, as you'll see below...
