James ‘Munky’ Shaffer and Brian ‘Head’ Welch – both pioneers of the seven-string guitar – have anchored the band for most of their existence, and are, amazingly, still finding new ways to play heavy.  GW recently sat down with Shaffer and Welch to discuss seven-strings, the recording of Requiem, the boutique pedals they use to get their craziest modulated sounds, and their advice for young bands looking to stand out.
