Spring is in the air 🌸

"The First Cherry Blossoms"
(Microseason 11)

This is arguably the most anticipated of all microseasons and the time when spring, in a grand orchestra of pinks and whites, signals its triumphant arrival. But this is one of those microseasons that has shifted slightly over the years (looking at you, global warming) and in reality the cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom.

Beer with a purpose


We begin our newsletter this week in the Honan neighborhood of Tokyo, where a craft beer brewery recently opened. Their mission? Not only serve great beer but hire local individuals with special needs and teach them everything there is to learn about the craft beer business.

The Sauna Bus

Next stop? Literally a bus stop. The Sabus is a discontinued public bus that's been retrofitted with a sauna. It's currently traveling across Japan, making stops in different cities. Earlier this month it was in Nagoya and right now it's in Tokyo!

In a sign that spring has sprung in even northern Japan, an 8km stretch of road between Aomori and Lake Towada, known as the "Snow Corridor" has been cleared and opened to traffic.
If phallus festivals are your thing, the Kanamara Matsuri in Kawasaki is tomorrow.  Prepare for large pink penis floats and swarms of foreign tourists.
