"Grass Sprouts, Trees Bud" (Microseason 6) With the first day of March comes the time of year when plant life begins to show early signs of spring. As if beckoned by the call of warmer sunlight, life begins to appear under our feet and on the branches of trees. These small buds and sprouts are called 木の芽 (konome) in Japanese, a word that is used to describe all types of weather patterns around this time of year. Early spring winds are called konome-kaze and early spring rains are konome-ame.
