The return of Pantera
I long ago learned to expect the unexpected at this gig, but even with that golden rule in mind, I can say with confidence that I – especially with memories of reporting on the death of their beloved drummer, Vinnie Paul, four years ago fairly fresh in my mind – never thought I'd be writing about the return of Pantera. Yet here they are, playing shows once again.

Filling in for Vinnie Paul is Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, with Zakk Wylde taking the place of legendary guitarist Dimebag Darrell, who was tragically murdered onstage in 2004. Vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, meanwhile, remain from the band's best-known lineup.

To their first show in over two decades – at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest – the band brought both classics and deep cuts, with Wylde, as promised, adding some of his own distinct flair to Dimebag Darrell's parts.

Check out fan-filmed footage of the set here and below.
