Eddie Van Halen's favorite Nuno Bettencourt riff
Recently, Guitar World’s Amit Sharma sat down with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger for an interview.

Yes, Kroeger and his many-times-platinum band have been the subjects of a decent amount of derision over the years, but the man's got stories for days. One of the ones he related to us in the interview was told to him, in turn, by Nuno Bettencourt.

Apparently, Bettencourt once hired Eddie Van Halen's guitar tech during a time when Van Halen were off the road.

Bettencourt, so the story goes, played a certain riff during soundcheck "and the tech said, ‘Oh, how do you know that riff? It’s a Van Halen riff that’s never been recorded!’ And Nuno was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And the tech said that Eddie used to play that song every single soundcheck.”

Needless to say, the riff did not belong to an unreleased Van Halen rarity, but rather an Extreme song that Eddie was quite fond of...
