A Ukrainian guitarist's fight to survive
On February 24, 2022, Nikita Zhemerenko’s life was turned upside down.

The guitarist – a resident of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv – awoke to the sound of constant, massive explosions. Kharkiv, like the rest of Ukraine, had been brutally invaded by Russia, and Zhemerenko was forced to flee – first to his parents' house, then to the city of Lviv, in the western part of the country.

Tragically, Zhemerenko's apartment building in the center of Kharkiv was hit by missiles in the days following the invasion. Though he and his girlfriend were safe, their home – and almost all of the valuables they hadn't taken with them when they fled – were destroyed.

Remarkably, some of the only objects that survived intact were Zhemerenko's pedals, which he's now auctioning in an effort to begin rebuilding his life. You can read more about the auction, and his incredible story, here.
