Editor's Note
Introducing bubble harmonics
Back in 2019, The Who's Pete Townshend made the bold claim that today's players have “literally exhausted the possibilities of the guitar.”

I have great respect for Townshend, and the ways in which he himself pushed rock guitar's boundaries in his heyday, but I didn't agree with him at the time, and I certainly don't agree with him now.

Why not? Well, for starters, let me introduce you to Atlanta-based guitarist Donn Aaron.

Inspired by Eddie Van Halen and Alan Gogoll, Aaron has invented a new technique he calls "bubble harmonics." Using just his hands, and this technique, he creates aquatic and ethereal sounds on his guitar, almost entirely without the help of effects. How? Well, you'll just have to find out.
