An unexpected reunion
I most certainly did not go into this week expecting to lead the Friday edition of The Pick with a story about Pink Floyd reuniting.

However, David Gilmour was so moved by the recent recording of Ukranian musician (and soldier) Andriy Khlyvnyuk singing the World War I-era Ukranian protest song, The Red Viburnum In The Meadow, acapella in Kyiv’s Sofiyskaya Square, that he decided to set the performance to an original piece of music.

Wanting the biggest platform possible with which to express his disgust with the barbaric invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and his desire for peace, Gilmour recruited his mid-'80s - mid-'90s-era bandmates – Nick Mason and Guy Pratt – to record a new Pink Floyd song, Hey Hey Rise Up.

Anchored by two minutes of spellbinding lead work from Gilmour, replete with the aching bends and crystalline tone that've made him one of rock's most revered guitarists, the song is most certainly worth a listen if you haven't heard it already.
