The Milky Way appears in Osaka

"The First Lotus Blossoms"

This is the time of year when the lotus blossoms early in the morning while the air is still cool. As the heat intensifies throughout the day, the blossom closes up. The lotus flower has always been associated with divinity, perhaps because of its unparalleled beauty and how it often grows from muddy waters.

Tanabata in Osaka

The Okawa River, which runs through central Osaka, was lit up with 40,000 LED lights floating down the river as they evoked the celestial milky way. The surreal scene was part of a celebration of Tanabata, or the Star Festival, which is a major summer festival in Japan taking place on July 7th.

120,000 lotuses in full bloom now at the Ancient Lotus Park in Saitama.   The park opens early at 7AM the lotus blossoms early in the morning while the air is still cool. As the heat intensifies throughout the day, the blossom closes up.
