Of course the sunlight, when compared with summer, still feels weak or maybe even a little unstable. And rainbows around this time of year feel equally fainter.

We begin our newsletter at Hitachi Seaside Park in Tochigi, whose hills are currently covered with Baby Blue Eyes, also known as Nemophila. Although Japan's cherry blossoms get all the attention for their short-lived beauty, these little babies are just as ephemeral.

The Koumi Line

There are numerous tiny train lines across Japan that are a dying breed. One of those is the Koumi Line, which connects Kobuchizawa Station in Yamanashi with Komoro Station in Nagano. In an attempt to boost ridership the train has turned its advertisement space into a photo gallery.

Unforgettable Landscapes

Lastly, we highlight an illustrator we came across last month, Ippan Nakamura, who was having a small exhibition in Tokyo. Part illustrator, part manga artist, Nakamura creates whimsical landscapes of Tokyo that area at once both surreal and nostalgic.

It was a harrowing weekend in Japan. On Saturday,  man threw a pipe bomb at Prime Minister Kishida right before he was about to give a speech in Wakayama
On Sunday, an accident at Osaka's famous Danjiri Matsuri sent 6 to the hospital after a float overturned.
